Apple
has announced
that the App Store for the iPhone / iPod Touch has now seen more than 2 billion downloads of applications, with a half billion programs in the last quarter alone.
In addition, the company revealed that the total number of apps in the store currently exceeds 85,000, and that they are now available to more than 50 million customers in 77 countries.

This is fascinating to me. The reason is this- and maybe it is intuitive- but the reason that the iPhone is popular is that it is used as a computer in addition to a phone. You might think that anyway; I had just read a blog that suggested that in the NYC area, a 33% dropped-call rate was not unusual. I wish they had an app that would improve reception.
But it is important to think about how people communicate. Social Media Revolution suggested that, given the availability of instant communication, if your company isn’t THERE, you miss opportunities. People aren’t complaining about poor service to a patronizing customer service department. They are tweeting about it; they are writing posts; they are telling their friends on Facebook.
